Mississippi River Party Theme

Our daughter’s name is Jaye Mississippi. She’s named after the river. Why? Because one year, Phil and I took a trip bicycling down the Mississippi from Minneapolis, MN to LaCrosse, WI. While we were pedaling along, Phil says, “If we ever have a daughter, we could name her Mississippi.” When we found out we were pregnant with a little girl, we started thinking about names. For some sentimental mushy reasons, the Mississippi River has played a big part in my relationship with Phil; for example, he proposed along the banks of the Mississippi. So Mississippi as a name ties into where Phil and I met, fell in love, and got married. At the time we were pregnant, we knew we’d be moving away from the Mississippi and our first home and the home Jaye was born in, to be closer to family in Texas. So Mississippi seemed a fitting name to remind her where she was born. And the Mississippi River is just really awesome and powerful and amazing; who wouldn’t want to be named after it?

And that’s the long story of why her first birthday party had a Mississippi River party theme. Here’s a roundup of all the projects and posts I did for her party. Click the picture to read more about that project. Enjoy!
