A couple of weekends ago, we got the chance to stay at a cabin for a free preview weekend at Best Day Ever Ranch, a new getaway location just north of Dallas. All week long, Phil and I had been talking about finding somewhere to camp that very weekend, but I hadn’t gotten around to getting anything set-up. So when a last minute opening came up on Thursday, we jumped on it and headed north to Whitewright, Texas the very next afternoon!
The first amazing thing I love about Best Day Ever Ranch is that it is located only about an hour or so North of Dallas! For us, this is the perfect distance–far enough to feel “away” but close enough that you don’t lose all your relaxation by spending so much time driving. The Ranch is secluded off the road and surrounded by trees, so as we drove in, we really felt like we drove away from the rest of the world to a special place.
If you know one thing about Cy, it’s probably that he loves to be outside. If you know a second thing about Cy, it’s probably that he loves dogs (or as he calls them, “Dah-Dah”). Best Day Ever Ranch perfectly combined Cy’s two favorite things. He spent nearly the entire time outdoors. And there were two ranch dogs that followed us around and loved getting hugs from Cy.
Each cabin at the ranch has its own golf cart–a huge highlight for our kids. Cy and Jaye LOVED riding all over the ranch in our golf cart. Where did we go on those joyrides? To the lake to explore or swim, to the horse barns to say hi, to the Petting Zoo to visit the llamas, goats, and donkeys, to the trails for a nature walk, to the Rec Center to play pool or ping-pong, to the campfire for smores, or to the Event Barn for a get-together with the other bloggers.
The ranch has 8 brand-new cabins, each with a full bathroom, tiny kitchenette (mini fridge, sink, and microwave), and AC! Our cabin had a futon in the living room where Phil and I slept, and a loft bedroom upstairs with a king size bed for Jaye and space for Cy’s port-a-crib. We had a beautiful back deck with a view of nothing but trees and nature, a great front porch overlooking the ranch and a cool outdoor shower!
We had such an amazing weekend at Best Day Ever Ranch and we will definitely be back. It was truly a perfect getaway weekend. If you are looking for somewhere to host a family reunion, church retreat, wedding, or just to get out of the city for a night or two, I highly highly recommend Best Day Ever Ranch.
