Last weekend, Phil and I enjoyed a lovely child-free weekend in Austin, while Jaye enjoyed a weekend at Mimi and Pops. We drove down on Friday to stay with our friends Chris and Laura, who are expecting their first child in just a few weeks. We spent Friday evening doing our favorite thing: playing nerdy board games! We played Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan. And I won. Of course.
Saturday morning, we slept in. It was incredible–what a concept. Then after a yummy breakfast out, we tackled a little home decor project. Spoiler alert: It didn’t work out. That’s a true spoiler. Look for an upcoming post on how NOT to paint an ombre wall.
For dinner on Saturday, we made progress towards one of my Thirty by 30 goals, by eating at Paul Qui’s new restaurant, Qui. The picture above was my first taste of foie gras, as part of this almond gazpacho. My favorite dish was the ceviche, which I had never had before, and really thought I wouldn’t like.
We headed back to the Big D early on Sunday because we had one more exciting stop to make before we picked up Jaye. Yup. It’s a new wedding ring for me! Same groom, though. We ordered it back in May from an artist at the Cottonwood Art Festival, and it was finally ready. It’s so beautiful, and I love that it was custom made. I’m in love (with the ring and my darling husband).
We had a wonderful weekend away, but it was also so wonderful to come back home to this smiling face. Jaye, you are the sweetest daughter in the world!
